"Truck 81. Squad 3. Ambulance 61. Structure Fire. 1498 South Green Street" It was the middle of the night when the Claxon alarm went off. She'd been mostly asleep as she grabbed her stuff on the way out to the truck. She smacked Ben in the shoulder. Getting him up on calls in the middle of the night was... well she had pretty much taken to shoving him off the cots. "C'mon Gopher. Move" she stated as she continued to move. Stephanie didn't stop and wait on anyone. Least she could do was try.
Once she was in the truck and geared up she rubbed her eyes and started waking up officially. They never got sleep on shift. Oh well at least they could sleep after the call. The address was an apartment complex. So many apartments inside. Those always made her stomach churn. So many floors. While they were on their way she heard the Lieutenant assigning off floor numbers.
Stephanie always used the time in the truck to get her head screwed back on straight. Focusing and trying to separate out the personal and her job. That was proving to be more and more difficult as time went on. So usually she was just silent on the ride unless something needed to be said, then she would open her mouth. Right now she just needed to focus on the call. Right focus Stephanie. Focus.

The claxon alarm went off and Ben simply wanted to turn over and ignore it which it exactly what he had attempted to do until his felt the smack in his shoulder. It was the middle of the night, did he not need sleep like every other citizen in Chicago or was this a torture especially reserved for him? “Moving Cutie Pie, I swear.” He stated in a low tone as he hauled himself into an upright position. Ben groaned as he rolled out of the cot and started a slightly unstable run toward towards the truck. Ben felt himself aim for the step on the truck as he put his foot down only to find he was a couple of inches out as he almost face planted on the floor of the truck. He managed to jump into fine with a second attempt as the wheels where moving before he had managed to get his backside into a seat. Apartments were always the worst, it meant splitting up at times and despite his promise to let go and be more relaxed about calls Ben found himself thinking about the worst yet again. No, he was just a fire-fighter the same as she was and they had a job to do. Yawning, Ben glanced toward Stephanie as he tried to wake up. “Why can’t people start fires in daylight hours? I’m turning into a vampire at this rate.” He said with a grin as he ran a hand over his face and glanced out of the window, no he would simply be himself and not try to control things beyond his control as he listened to the Lieutenant assign the floor numbers. He usually liked to know what floor others were on just in case, he had done that long before Stephanie though it never hurt to know where she was. Stephanie Taylor,

Stephanie tossed a redbull into his lap. "Yeah well vampire gophers are not sexy" she teased lightly as they finally got where they were going. Stephanie grabbed her mask and was sent up to the tenth floor with Capp. The smoke was so thick. Thicker than usual. Even through the mask her eyes were burning as she made her way up the ladder. Busting out the window she climbed in the window behind Capp. She'd not been partnered with Capp since her rope broke. Focus, Steph, Focus she told herself as she went into the left to start searching the rooms they were in.
"Harris?" he called out n the area around him. It was too quiet but Steph had already disappeared into a screen of smoke. "Harris Report" Capp called into the radio.
There was a loud thud as Stephanie's mask was thrown towards him. "Harris put your gear back on and stop messing around!"
"Harris Report! Capp what the hell is going on up there!?!"
"Harris was right behind me... She's not responding but her PASS is silent, and her mask is at my feet. Something's not right."
Stephanie was putting up a fight but in so much gear she was a much easier target. It was almost impossible to fight back wearing at least 50lbs of gear. "I'm not gonna hurt you but you better move" the voice hissed.
"No? I'll rip your throat out your spine through your rectum. Let go of me!" She went to shove him off but she was subdued as she was fighting through the smoke with no air mask. That is what the person was counting on.
"Nighty night Harris" he whispered as he dragged her out of the building through a path he knew was mostly safe from the fire.
"Firefighters don't just disappear Capp! Find her!" There was a loud thunk over the radio. Their interim lieutenant was not happy.

Ben grinned and nodded a thanks to her as he opened the can and started to drink. He was about to make a comment about biting when luckily the truck pulled up to where they needed to be. Better not to have the interim Lieutenant annoyed with him just yet, that could happen later as Ben grabbed his gear leaving half a can of red bull on his seat for later. There was no chance he was sleeping now. Then as if he needed more or a reason to watch out for Stephanie she was partnered with Capp, Ben knew last time had been an accident but how many accidents could there be? Deciding not to make it a big deal Ben followed his partner into the building, floor five, far enough away and yet too far in his own head as he started knocking on doors and opening then. The smoke was thick but not so bad as he took a few calm breaths through the mask. It was textbook so far he thought until he heard the voice on the radio, anyone else he might have been a little more relaxed about it and yet there was Capp asking where Harris was. Not hanging from a rope this time he thought as he glanced back to his own partner and saw they were right beside him at the opposite side of the hall. Ben scrambled for his radio as he took a much deeper breath. “What the hell do you mean she was? What’s happening?” He asked trying to find out as he glanced at his partner for the call. Ben heard the interim Lieutenant as he checked himself and went on to the next apartment, Stephanie wanted her space to work he thought it was likely just Capp panicking over the slightest little thing he told himself even though he could feel the knots in his stomach tightening with every door and apartment he checked. “Harris, what’s going on?” He asked over the radio, she would answer him, she would if she could he told himself trying not to jump to the worst conclusion. The PASS Device was ripped off and thrown to the floor. Thirty seconds later it was blaring. "You have 2 minutes until that building is coming down." Called the interim Lieutenant. "Squad 3 you need to get out of there!" he called over the radio. The PASS device continued to blare loudly.
Meanwhile Stephanie was in the back of a van. She was given oxygen for her smoke inhalation but given an injection of a drug designed for keeping her to sleep. The guy brushed some hair from her face. "I just need your help. You are going to be alright." Getting into the drivers seat he drove away from the back of the building. Grabbing her radio from her belt clip he heard all of what was going on.
"Harris is indisposed at the moment. She is in my care until further notice." Oh he was letting them know how things were going to go. He was letting them know that this was no game. "Don't worry she's being taken very good care of" his voice sounded genuine. No the firefighter was his bargaining chip to get what he wanted.

The Lieutenant was on the radio again, two minutes to get out of there well he was going nowhere without Stephanie he thought as they made the last check on the floor for the apartment before Ben pointed for his partner to get out while he took off up the stairs toward Capp. When he finally made it to their floor he could hear the PASS device a mile off. “Stephanie! Stephanie!” He called out trying to find her anywhere he could see though the smoke was much thicker up there than it was where he had been. “Not leaving until I’ve got Harris.” Ben said into the radio, he hardly wanted to start a fight with the Lieutenant but then Stephanie was more than just a fellow fire-fighter, not that he would do any different if she was but this was personal. He stopped when he heard the strange voice on the radio, not any voice he knew from other call outs as he listened to the voice say she was in their care until further notice, what was going on? No one took a fire-fighter, a cop sure but one of them what were they even after. “Just tell me she’s out of the building?” Ben asked deciding that if the building was coming down then he wanted to be sure she was safe outside of it. Despite safe being a very lose term for what it was. “If it’s money you want then I can get it, just let her go please.” Ben pleaded as he took a few steps toward the stairs knowing he was going to have to run out of there if he was going to make it before his time was up. "Wouldn't you like to know?" The voice hung up on the radio. As he drove only a few blocks away. If he drove too far or too fast it would look suspicious. He rolled Stephanie over in the van. He would wait for the drugs to wear off over the next hour or so. Right now he had to contemplate his next move. Ah, yes. He made a phone call to his associate. Taking off Stephanie's gear he knew it couldn't be comfortable to sleep in it. Setting it aside in the corner he then took her turn out coat and put it over her to keep her warm.
One he was on the phone giving instructions he hung it up.
Some several minutes later a call came through to the radio once again. "You can't bring my little girl back." He mused. Arson wouldn't even look at the case. It had been dismissed. "She was murdered and no one cares, one of your own disappears and you lose your minds? What's wrong with you people?" He demanded loudly over the speaker. Though he was furious. No one was listening to him. Now he had their full attention.
Stephanie was only sleeping because of the drugs in her system, she never slept through loud noises. "I'm not going to hurt your firefighter. But I'm not giving her back until you find out what happened to Kelsey. I'll keep her months if I have to" he added. Oh yeah he had NO idea what he had just chewed off. Just wait until the flaming brunette woke up.

If this was some kind of prank then Ben was ready to kill someone for it happily. Getting out of the building became a task as he watched the others exit behind him though he staggered toward the Squad truck not caring who was watching him as he tried to calm himself down. If Stephanie was in that building he would never forgive himself he thought as he saw Capp come out of the door and back into the daylight. All Ben could do was glare at the man, he trusted Capp and this was the second time something had happened to Stephanie when he was around. Time passed and then he heard that voice again over the radio. This was about his little girl, why take the fire-fighter he thought though his hand was already on the radio before anyone could stop him doing so. “I... we don’t know about your little girl, you have to give us something to work on.” Ben said trying to get the guy to understand but then he was too worried about Stephanie. “You’ve taken one of our family, please just let her go and we can talk about this.” He asked trying to keep the pleading tone from his voice yet that hardly worked. To say he was relieved to hear that the man would spare Stephanie any hurt was undeniable though the thought of not seeing her home that night. No he needed to figure this out. “Okay, just give me some more information what is Kelsey’s last name and what happened to her? I promise you I’ll find out just don’t hurt Stephanie.” He said trying to figure out who to call, the police obviously but then which ones as he just decided that Intelligence was the best option as he reached for his phone dialling the number as he waited to hear back from the guy who had taken Stephanie. The man listened to Ben but scoffed into the radio. "I keep her until you people do your jobs!" he boomed loudly. It was enough that it woke up Stephanie behind him and she began stirring, albeit with the drugs in her system it was rather a quiet stir as she tried to make sense of... no she didn't know where she was and she screamed loudly. She was pretty sure whoever was on the other side of the radio could hear her cursing in Bulgarian. The man turned around in his seat looking at her quirking his brow.
Stephanie heard the voice talking on the radio. Ben. No he wasn't here? Where was she? Trembling with nothing to calm her down this was about to get bad and fast. The man put the radio down to come see if she needed anything and before she realized which way was right side up she had the guy pinned to the side of the van. Though she was weak from the drugs so holding his weight up was out of the question. She settled for a knee to his chest. The guy pushed her off just enough so he could scramble to his feet. Stephanie froze as the man pointed a gun at her head. He wasn't planning on hurting her but she didn't know that and right now he needed control of the situation.
Somewhere in between all of this mess Erin was sent from the 21st. Something about grabbing an Arson investigator on the way out. Just what she needed in her day; a missing fire fighter. Who took a firefighter hostage? What would they even have to gain? Erin tapped on the door to the Arson unit. "Someone. I don't care who, with me. Your comrades down at fifty-one can't seem to stay out of trouble for all of 5 minutes." She wasn't even paying attention to who answered her as she hurried out the door.
Stephanie felt the gun at the base of her skull. "I told your co-workers I wasn't going to hurt you; don't make a liar out of me" he stated throwing files at her. "You get to explain to them what happened to Kelsey" he added. Steph grabbed the papers and started reading over them. Soon he handed her the radio to start explaining. Up until then there had been radio silence. "Ben, Kelsey Kinsey was 12. Died in a house fire in 2015. Arson closed the case last month. Fire was undetermined causes." She knew that was code for Arson that couldn't be proven. "No traces of an accelerant used but the alibi was shaky." She had no idea that Erin was listening into the radio channel in the car on the way over.

Do his job; it was what he had been trying to do until Stephanie had disappeared. After hearing that news his job was put to the side because he had to find her to keep her safe. It was what he had promised her, nothing bad would happen and he would watch her back at work. Yet again he had let Capp partner with her without saying anything and this is what happened, she was missing with a man he knew little about and he just had to take a voice over the radio’s word that she would be safe. Ben could only imagine what state Stephanie was in though he hoped that whoever had her had taken that into account because even he struggled on a good day to understand. Ben knew more now about how to calm her down and the reasons behind what happened but still he knew what it was like for someone to just stumble across it and have no idea what to do. Not too long ago that had been himself and he knew that he could have handled it better and yet they were still together. Jia had been enjoying her first cup of hot coffee when the detective tapped on the door to the arson unit. Why did they always have to pick that moment as she looked around the few other faces in the office who either never heard the woman or chose to ignore her. “On it.” She said as she sent a stone cold glare around the other faces before she managed to take a quick drink of her coffee before following the other detective. Fifty-one were their eyes and ears for fires and if it was one of theirs in trouble then it might as well be a police officer. Jia followed Erin to the car as once inside she looked at the woman. “So what do we have exactly?” she asked still unsure on how she could help the fire-fighters that were in trouble. She was only a few hours into her shift but usually she was called in after the fire was out or at the very least when it was dying out. Then again for another detective to drag the arson unit out it had to be worth it for at least getting to leave the four walls of confinement. Ben felt like he was being killed by the radio silence, it took forever to hear a voice on the other end and yet he was relieved to hear it was Stephanie as he started taking down the details having no idea that Erin was on her way over. Twelve years old, he felt for the guy as he knew what seeing Grace in that fire had done to him but Grace had been lucky thanks to Stephanie. “So they have a suspect for it?” Ben asked trying to keep himself relatively calm, “Just keep talking to me Stephanie.” He said wanting to tell her that everything would be alright and yet he had no idea. All he knew was if he could hear her voice then she was relatively alright. Stephanie Taylor,

Erin looked over to Jia. "Firefighter kidnapped out of the middle of a fire. Right now that's all we know. We have a feeling this fire was deliberately set. He was waiting for her in the building" She didn't have anymore information than that. They would have to find out more when they got to the building. Erin was focused on the road as she drove. These were fifty one's people and that didn't sit well at all with Erin.
Stephanie was still talking to Ben over the radio. "They did. According to this there is no forwarding address left." Stephanie wasn't going to let the guy know she had the means to find this person who had gotten to Kelsey, but she also didn't want to go after the wrong person either. There was little they could do without calling the PD.
Erin popped out of the car once they got to where Benjamin was. Just in time to hear Steph over the radio. "It was her caregiver at the time who has this shaky alibi. But she supposedly had the week off" So much confusion. The gun was released off the back of her skull as it was replaced with a hand to her shoulder. The man's voice picked up over the radio. "Give them the name sweetheart" he encouraged.
It took all of a moment before Steph turned on him again. She grabbed the gun and turned on him. "Don't move" she stated. Clicking it she heard a bullet go in the chamber. The man didn't have it loaded but Stephanie did. "Take one step. I put a bullet between your skull" She was dizzy and right now had the potential to miss but the guy didn't need to know that.
Grabbing the radio off the counter she gave away her location. Only because she recognized the warehouse. She'd been there several times. "Tell PD they may be needing a body bag" she added. The man's voice again came over the radio. "You won't shoot me. What's a good little fire fighter like you doing with a gun anyway?" he added.

Jia listened to Erin when she spoke about the kidnapping and a deliberately set fire. She knew how to deal with arson but not a kidnapping though it sounded as if it was well planned. A fire could be unpredictable and to make it work for you, there had to be some level of skill involved as even the best could miscalculate something on the way. “Not good, too well planned.” She said knowing that she hated starting from behind the game line as it were. Planning meant that escape was inevitable and it was a matter of cat and mouse after that. Ben sighed; an address would have been handy to work with though that was going to be too easy. If there was an address then the guy who had Stephanie would have looked there already he thought as he stayed silent for a moment before he saw Erin and Jia get out of the car. He was glad to see the cops there but then usually when those guys were around things were bad. Hearing Stephanie’s voice again Ben listened intently to what was being said. “Okay, it’s a good place to start.” He said over the radio trying to be encouraging, there were things to work with though he had no idea where to start with a police investigation. That was Stephanie’s department though she was the one in trouble. Then came that voice, a voice that called Stephanie sweetheart as all he wanted to do was to reach through the radio and strangle the guy. Ben looked alarmed when he heard Stephanie mention needing a body bag, “Stephanie are you alright? Don’t worry I’ll come and get you.” He said over the radio before he realised he had no idea where he was heading at all. The great thing about panic was he was too out of his mind to think straight as he listened again. “I swear if you’ve hurt her she won’t shoot you I will.” Ben snapped not caring he had no idea how but he would give it a shot. “Don’t test her on it; I’ve seen her shot people before who didn’t kidnap her.” Ben warned knowing that Stephanie was hardly going to like being challenged to do it when Ben knew full well she was more than capable to do it. Erin gave Jia a look that said what she was thinking. 'Ya think?' Okay so even the sarcasm was there. Erin was worried that this was too planned. When she got out of the car she took control of the situation and squad cars and everything. She'd learned enough from Hank on how to run an operation right. "Jia. Profile this arsonist for me. Get with one of the firefighters. Figure out how this fire started and fast."
Erin grabbed the radio from Ben. "You stay out of this" she glared. Hearing Stephanie mention the warehouse she started giving orders. "That warehouse is 3 blocks from here. It's under the parking garage" She grabbed her gun and headed for her car. "Someone keep the crazy firefighter off the radio before he kills her" she was serious. Ben had no clue what he was doing and he was going to get someone killed.
"You screwed with the wrong firefighter" Stephanie fired off. The radio wasn't picking her up and she was glad for it. There were sirens. "Move and I shoot you." She hissed. The gun didn't move off the man as she circled him. "I'm not playing. Take a step and i'll shoot you in the foot. Take your hands out of my sight? I wont hesitate to put a bullet in your head." She narrowed eyes at him. Stephanie was hiding her shaking and dizzy feeling as best she could as she had been trained to do.
Minutes passed as she heard footsteps and shouting clearing the building. "I will still shoot you" she replied. Erin and officer arrived on the scene. Erin went over and handcuffed the guy throwing him into the ground but Stephanie still had the gun in her hand. She wouldn't let go of it. She was dizzy and it was clear she was out of it. "Stephanie it's okay you can put the gun down now. You are safe." Erin started giving orders with her eyes.

Sarcasm, she should have expected that though talking things through she felt worked. At least if someone disagreed she would understand that long before any paperwork was done. Jia watched as Erin took charge of the operation, she was surprised at the efficiency and authority that the woman held. It was far from her first scene Jia thought as she nodded to Erin. “On it detective.” She said before she grabbed someone who’s turn out coat said Capp to help her. How a fire started in some cases was easy to find, others not so much and fast well she could only work as fast as the building and fire let her. “Wait, what are you...” Ben stopped there when Erin grabbed the radio off him; her glare was met with one just as firm. The radio was his only connection to Stephanie, the woman he loved who was in trouble and he was hardly going to just let that go. Ben stood there as tried not to do anything remotely stupid as he held his hands up to a few fire-fighters who came to stop him doing anything stupid. “Just make sure she’s safe.” He called after Erin though if Stephanie was out of it for any reason they would have a tough time of it. It was in that thought that Ben grabbed a hose that was left out and went about tidying it up, he saw the people watching him nod and go back to their business though Ben simply dropped the hose at the nearest available moment. He was hardly going to let some cop tell him what not to do when his family was in trouble. Ben took off at a run, three blocks it was a short distance though in full gear that he failed to shed before he took off it was tough going. He hardly cared about that, all he wanted to do was to get to Stephanie. Ben managed to get to the place as he saw the car Erin had been driving there. He could feel his heart beating out of his chest as he took a few deep breaths trying not to sound like he just ran ten miles. He heard something about a gun though when he managed to look he saw Stephanie holding it. It reminded him of that day in the fire house, the day he found out she actually carried a gun on the job as he took a few steps toward Erin and Stephanie. He hardly cared that he was still in uniform or what Erin would say or do to him. “Stephanie, please its okay just give Erin the gun. You’re safe now, it’s alright.” He said calmly not wanting anyone to get hurt and least of all Stephanie as he reached out a hand to her. Stephanie Taylor,

Stephanie let Erin have the gun. But only after she heard Ben's voice. She was going to let Jia have this guy for questioning about the fire, just as soon as she was done with the guy in interrogation about the kidnapping. Oh yes the CPD was not going to give this guy and easy ride.
Though Stephanie collapsed as she took a step as the room was spinning. She found herself hurling towards the floor. Though she grabbed Ben's turn out coat as one of the other officers handed hers to Ben. "There is an ambulance already enroute" he explained. Though she'd collapsed she was still conscious. "I'm just dizzy. I don't need an ambulance" She was protesting. Really cops were the most annoying things on the planet at times. "It's procedure" he explained.
Stephanie knew it was procedure. Her arms wrapped around Ben's neck but she felt weak. She was slipping to keep herself more upright. She'd been fighting this. "It's just sleeping medication. It will wear off" The guy shot his mouth off. Stephanie felt sick to her stomach too on top of it all though she rested on the crevice of Ben's neck. Her body telling her it was safe to let her adrenaline drop. Which is exactly what was happening.
To say that she was confused was an understatement but she was coherent enough to recognize people and places and things. "Ben" She was now hugging him and realizing that she was still completely unaware of what had transpired. Last thing Stephanie wanted was a paramedic anywhere near here. She was sweating profusely and she felt cold and dizzy but she just wanted Ben and a blanket and to go home.
